Dan Holzapfel is an absolute inspiration to the Redlands community and his philanthropic spirit and support of this community in so many ways, makes him the perfect choice as Patron, as he has through his actions, portrayed what the Foundation’s ideals and desires are for our Redlands.
On Tuesday 23rd January 2018, Dan Holzapfel was named the Redland Citizen of the Year at the Redland City Australia Day Awards.
His past actions are clearly a fit with our strategic direction of supporting organisations that can make a difference to our way of life and build capacity in a manner that helps people live healthy, fulfilling and enjoyable lives.
- He has been one of the most significant contributors to the Rotary International program for the eradication of Polio, and the world is a better place as a result
- He was the most significant private donor to the expansion of the Redland Museum, and our community is so much better because of it
- He has contributed to so many local programs that have directly and indirectly contributed to improvements to our health and wellbeing in this community
While very few of us will be able to match the scope of his generosity, we can all adopt his philanthropic spirit, and help in any way we can to build a stronger community with the ability to maintain viable local organisations that reach into every corner of our society, through the maintenance of an army of “well resourced” volunteers or the acquisition of much needed equipment and facilities.
The Holzapfel name is a well known name in Redland City as a pioneering family of this region.
Don Seccombe AM
Mr Don Seccombe AM is the former Mayor of Redland Shire (2001-2008) and founder of the Redland Foundation.
As Mayor he left the local Arts world two fine legacies in the new Redland Performing Arts Centre and Redland Art Gallery.
He offers a substantial background in government and big business that includes a role with Incitec Limited where, as National Sales Manager for the $700M company he was responsible for 400 employees.
Through his many community involvements Mr Seccombe has made substantial and enduring financial and other contributions to the Redlands community. He was Patron to around 45 community organizations in his time as Mayor.
He currently chairs the Boards of Clubs Queensland, Australian Hospitality & Gaming Expo, Redlands Sporting Club Inc and Redland Foundation. He is also a Board Member and Vice Chairman of Clubs Australia and Clubs Australia Industrial.
Throughout this long association with Redlands Sporting Club, Mr Seccombe has contributed specific expertise in strategic planning, feasibility studies, building and expansion plans, and project management. Key projects he has driven includes a $12.3M expansion completed in 2007, which was fully funded from cash reserves. The Club remains debt-free under his leadership.
In addition to his recognition in the Australian Honor System in 2014 (AM) for his services to Cricket and the Clubs Industry, Mr Seccombe has also been the recipient of a number of significant Awards including the Australia Day Sports Medal (1983), the Centenary Sports Medal for contribution to cricket (2000) and the Centenary Medal in recognition of service to Local Government (2003).
Mr Ian Neil is a dispute resolution lawyer who practises principally in the Planning & Environment Courts and Land Courts and Supreme Court of Queensland.
He is also the Director in charge of the Litigation Department of McCarthy Durie Lawyers.
Mr Neil is a Life Member and Past President of the Redland City Chamber of Commerce. He is also the incoming President of the Rotary Club of Cleveland.
As well, M. Neil has served his community in roles of Board member and long-time Honorary Solicitor to the Queensland Muscular Dystrophy Association, Director of Sheldon College, Redlands Institute, Past President of Carmel College P&F Association, Lifesaver with Coochiemudlo Island Surf Lifesaving Club, and Honorary Solicitor roles with numerous community associations.
He holds a Bachelor of Laws, and, with wife Sue, has been a proud Redlands resident since 1989, happily raising their two children here.
Mr Jim Baldwin is a qualified Chartered Practicing Accountant offering more than 40 years’ experience in a range of management functions.
Formerly the Operations Manager, Consumer Products Division and Inventory Management Facilitator for chemicals manufacturer, Incitec, Mr Baldwin has been widely involved in a range of community organizations throughout Queensland and New South Wales.
He is a Life Member of the Border Hockey Association where he served as an Executive member for 32 years and held positions as Registrar, Secretary and Treasurer (1957-1989)
As well, he is a Life Member of the Redlands Sporting Club Inc where, since 1990, Mr Baldwin has held the position of Treasurer, contributing to the efficient management of this highly successful organization.
Mr Baldwin also spent 13 years as Treasurer of the Murwillumbah High School P & C (1973-86), and five years as Treasurer, Redlands Spring Festival (2005-10).
Community Grants Coordinator / Board Secretary
Mrs Lauren Andreatta offers an extensive background in community funding with a focus on funding and community infrastructure. Lauren is the Redland Foundation’s Community Grants Coordinator, Board Secretary, and key point of contact for organisations seeking our support.
Lauren began her career as part of the Sleeman Sports Centre events team, responsible for marketing and management of major events and galas, before moving to a marketing coordination role with a number of multicultural groups in Logan.
Lauren is currently the Redlands Sporting Club’s Digital Communications Manager coordinating all online media, as well as managing the funding portfolios of five affiliated local clubs in governance, funding, committee and policy management, successfully achieving $950 000 in funding through a range of funding programs over the past three years.
Lauren holds a Bachelor of Leisure Management (majoring in Community and Cultural Development) from Griffith University and is set to complete the Graduate Certificate in Governance and Public Policy through the University of Queensland
Mr Peter Marer is an insurance specialist who has worked extensively as an insurance broker, risk manager, insurance manager and consultant over more than 40 years.
Peter exited his own insurance broking practice in 2014 and now consults widely on general insurance and governance matters for Australian and international corporations.
Peter is a Past President, Paul Harris Fellow and past leader of a Group Study Exchange Team with Rotary Club of Cleveland. He is also a Member of the Board of the Horizon Foundation.
He holds a Diploma of Financial Services (Insurance) Broking. He is a Senior Associate of ANZIIF and a Certified Insurance Professional.
He is also a Member of the Australian Institute of Company Directors and a Member of National Insurance Brokers Association (NIBA). He is presently the Director of his own consulting practice, ‘Our Insurance Manager’.
With an extensive background in financial management and business coaching, Ken Ewald offers more than 32 years in the Financial Planning industry including roles in general and sales management.
In addition, Ken offers substantial business experience gained through the ownership of a farming enterprise from 1992 to 2013.
Since retiring in Nov. 2012 he has been actively involved in the local community as a volunteer committee and board member for several organisations including: Young Life Australia, Churches of Christ Queensland, and Star Community Transport (where he is a volunteer driver).
Ken is married with five children. He is a keen competitive squash player.
Mrs Lee Cottam
Discharge Coordinator at Mater Private Hospital
Mrs Lee Cottam is currently the Discharge Coordinator at Mater Private Hospital.
Lee has spent many years working for the Redlands community. She has extensive experience as a nurse, a business owner of a health and aged care consultancy, a volunteer and an advocate for the ageing population of the Redlands.
She considers growing up in the Redlands as a privilege & has a passion to maintain our present unique qualities and lifestyle whilst ensuring local growth & opportunities for our children & appropriate services to our ageing population.
Small Business Owner
Ms Corinne Tomasi is a small business owner whose family has served the Redlands community over five generations.
Through her family business, Ms Tomasi has worked with a variety of small retail and hospitality operations including Whepstead Manor and Clevetown Motel in Ormiston.
As a mother of four, Ms Tomasi has also had a long association with the Wellington Point Primary School P&C.
She is a gifted singer and entertainer who has volunteered her talents to assist a range of organizations including Zonta, the Cerebral Palsy League and RedFest.
Ms Tomasi also played a pivotal role in fundraising for the Cleveland Ambulance and its construction of the ambulance station at Dunwich.
Theatre, Radio & Television
Laraine Dillon offers a wide background in theatre, radio and television as the former Vice President of Bay FM and presenter of the Peter Dick and Laraine Dillon Show.
Laraine also brings significant experience in sales, marketing publicity and promotion, having held a variety of roles working for organisations such as Wellcome Australia, F H Faulting and Grace Brothers in a variety of roles throughout Australia, New Zealand, London and Paris.
She also offers substantial writing skills both as a successful novelist (The Easement, Chasing George, The Pitts in Paradise and Condemned) and as a radio script writer.
From 1991-94, Laraine branched into the small business and hospitality industry, as the owner/operator of a la carte restaurant ‘Glutton’s’ (winner Brisbane B105 Best Little Restaurant Award).
Sandi Shuttleworth is a solicitor for McCarthy Durie Lawyers and is a Member of the Queensland Law Society. Ms Shuttleworth is a passionate advocate for the enhancement of women and celebrating their success in business and community ventures. Her dedication to women in our community is seen through her involvement with Redlands Women in Business and her support for the Redland Centre for Women as President.
After graduating with a Bachelor of Laws from QUT in 2011, Sandi worked in Conveyancing before making the move to McCarthy Durie Lawyers in Cleveland.
Ms Shuttleworth moved to the Redlands in her earlier life, and after a short break has returned to the Cleveland bayside where she and her family are keen boating enthusiasts.
Mr Hargrave has been a Redland resident for 28 years and with his wife Lyndal has raised three daughters in Redland Bay.
Mr Hargrave has considerable experience in both the private and public sectors throughout Queensland and now specialises in management and organisation of property development, identification of development opportunity and risk management. He has travelled extensively studying best practice urban and community design.
Mr Hargrave is a principal of the Fox and Bell Group a private land development company specialising in medium sized development in Redland City. Projects include: Shoreline Master Planned Community, Redland Bay Village Shopping Centre, Victoria Point Lakeside Shopping Centre, Redlands Business Park.
He is also a Company director involved in a variety of business including wholesale and retail nurseries, self-storage facilities, shopping centre management, commercial property management and Indonesian charter boat operations.
He is a former President of Institution of Surveyors Aust QLD Division (1996), a Fellow Institution of Surveyors Aust (Qld Division), Member Property Council Australia and a former President and Life Member of the Redland City Chamber of Commerce.
Ms Donna Stone is a Business Coach who has been assisting Australian (and Redland) businesses for more than 30 years. She has owned a number of multi award winning businesses and is a prolific writer with six business books published. She coaches not only business owners, but also other business coaches through her Coach the Coach ™ program.
Donna has qualifications in Accounting, Training, and Management. She has been a member of the Australian Institute of Management for more than 25 years, as well as membership with other professional bodies, such as National Institute of Accountants, Institute of Learning Professionals and the Australian Society of Authors.
Donna has worked with a number of community and charitable organisations, in both voluntary and non-voluntary roles which included Advisor, Treasurer, Assistant- Treasurer, Secretary, Ambassador, Education Officer and Networking Coach. Organisations include: Pt Lookout Surf Lifesaving Club – Pt Lookout, Redlands Touch Football Club, St Rita’s P&F Association, Meals on Wheels – Victoria Point, Redlands Multi Sports Club, Key Business Network, My Networking Group, Redland City Chamber of Commerce and Crime Stoppers – Bayside.
Donna is passionate about business, and she is passionate about the Redlands; a place she chose to raise her three sons. She loves living in the Redlands and believes in giving back to her community.
